French brass mounted kingwood ladies “Bonheur du Jour” or Ladies Dressing Table.
This is a very elegant lady’s writing table with a long centre drawer with a nicely fitted substructure on top with two opening doors for storage and the centre door opens to reveal a lined interior and a mirror flap. It is a lovely compact piece of furniture with a wonderful veneer grain and an abundance of applied brass mouldings.
The words ‘Bonheur du Jour’ means ‘happiness of the day’, which means this style of desk was originally made for ladies to read and write their morning letters and dress for the day or prepare for bed. (495)
