19th Century French Oak and Cherrywood Barrel Bottom Dough Bin.
This rustic Provincial Dough Bin has a lift off lid and would have had daily use in Victorian times.
Sometimes referred to as a kneading trough where a quantity of kneaded dough would be put until required for baking.
It is a rectangular, trough-like wooden bin with inwardly sloping sides standing on four baluster turned legs joined by a stretcher and an unusual curved ‘barrel bottom’ base. This is a fabulous rustic piece with great colour and patina.
The solid top would be used as a side table in farmhouse kitchens.
Today, it could be used as a statement piece (with a story) in a hallway or as a side table in any living area - perfect for storage too!
It is in very good original condition.
